The Pig & Pastry

Open since 2008, and with it’s reputation preceding it, you may well have heard of this amazing …

‘Neighbourhood café on Bishopthorpe Road serving Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch, Sandwiches, Salads, daily changing specials, home baking, relationship advice, Tripadvisor bribes and more … !’

If you haven’t heard, or heard and not been, read on!

It’s award winning, and has accolades from the Good Food Guide, The Guardian, The Independent and Yorkshire Life amongst others, and alongside the power of good ol’ word of mouth (I don’t know anyone who’s been and had a bad word to say about it) it’s always busy!!! So as long as you’re prepared to maybe share, ‘budge up’, and possibly wait a moment it’s an absolute must to go.

The Pig and Pastry boasts an extensive, eclectic, sometimes healthy, always ridiculously tasty menu for a bijou gaff

From

Hip Hop A Pot Hummus – Hummus, Harissa, Rocket, Grilled Peppers, Avocado

The B.A.F.T.A – Bacon, Avocado, Feta, Tomato, Aioli

To five different types of Eggs Benedict and everything in between!

EW&S recently found themselves on the thriving, independent ‘Bishy Road’ which (obviously) then resulted in a visit to The Pig & Pastry, prompting us to write and share!

It was so difficult to choose what to eat, we plumped for soft boiled eggs with sourdough soldiers (served with a portion of marmite – genius, well, for the lovers) which was so simple, but oh SO delicious!

This soulful neighbourhood café is one of many fantastic independents on the parade, the owners of which formed a Traders Association in 2010, promoting the area as an excellent place to shop, live, socialise and work.  In 2015 Bishy Road entered the Great Britain High Street competition and not only won the Local Parade category but were honoured to be crowned the over-all Winner of Winners! And we think it’s well deserved. Go and see for yourselves!
