Goodbye 2022

I think its fair to say that 2022 has not been the year I thought it would be. After a long and gruelling divorce when my kids were really quite young I met a person that I thought was the person I had been waiting for all my life. By now I should be married and I thought that this person would bring happiness and calmness to the rest of my life.

It all fell apart this year in a really horrible traumatic way and after six months of total soul searching it has brought about an awakening that I have probably need for the last 20 years.

So here is what I have learnt…..

  1. Chasing around after someone else’s dreams does not make you happy.
  2. Buying stuff to keep up appearances does not make you happy, life is about experiences not possessions.
  3. Wine is good but too much is not going to fix anything.
  4. You cannot be responsible for other peoples happiness at the expense of your own.
  5. My favourite self care activity is to be in my pyjamas and cosy dressing gown with a cup of tea and a good book.
  6. Its’ never too late to be the person you want to be.
  7. I have the freedom to choose how I spend my time.
  8. You can’t polish a turd.

My plan for the next year…

  1. Look after myself, mentally and physically. Last year was a very unhealthy year this year I am going to embrace a healthier habits
  2. Look after the people I love, family and friends
  3. Read….I had forgotten, in the last 5 years, how much I love a book, magazine and Sunday paper
  4. Spend time with the people I love, my 2 teenagers are brilliantly funny intelligent human beings and I have group of amazing friends
  5. Work hard, not just at my actual work but my neglected for 5 years house is going to get a makeover…. you are all going on my learning DIY journey with me.
  6. Adventure, try new things before it is too late. Take my kids to the places they should see….watch this space.

I don’t want to say I am going on a journey, I’m not on X factor but hopefully this is the start of a new kind of life, full of love and laughter, appreciating what I have. I hope you will come along for the ride!
