Kimonos are not going anywhere

Take your trusty longline cardigan and elevate it to such a wonderful, stylish state that people marvel, eyes agog as you pass. Here you’ll find the kimono.

Over the past few summers they’ve become one of the stealth trends of a successful summer wardrobe.

A cheap see-through one won’t cut it and avoid a tasselled one whilst you are at it – they have a tendency to get caught in car doors, trail in bath water and absorb spilt drinks. Also be very aware of the colour and pattern you pick. You may want a brighter, more breezy kimono for your summer holiday manoeuvres in the Maldives as well as the staple one we are talking about here.

Think of your kimono as a light weight jacket, a throw-on cover up which will see you glide elegantly through summer like a swan on a lake. Throw your kimono over jeans to pick the kids up from school, let it hang nonchalantly from your shoulders over your trusty summer dress at Sports Day, choose it for date night belted over your leather pencil skirt paired with block heels. If you are feeling subversive try wearing a Wildfox or Zoe Karssen t-shirt underneath. If not, a plain basic tee or your trusty denim shirt will do a treat. They also look the business with a silk top and 7/8th trousers for a night out.

Be gone cardigan, there’s a new kid in cover-up town.
