Sequins – not just for Christmas!

So you’ve probably bought a few party pieces to get you through the next few weeks of festivities?! A sequin skirt perhaps or spangly maxi dress? Well my biggest piece of advice, for what it’s worth, is to make sure you get as much wear out of anything vaguley ‘dressy’ or ‘sequinned’ Please don’t wear it for the office party then hide it away in your wardrobe until next year. Sequins are for life right? Not just for Christmas!! More than ever before, it seems to be increasingly acceptable to dress down your evening pieces for daytime, this is great news but how??

My top tips;

  • If you’ve got a maxi dress that you have worn in the past for an occasion, now is the time to re-wear it as a maxi skirt. Ditch the heels, swap for some chunky boots and throw a cosy knit over the top – immediately you’ve got a wearable look for the daytime that can easily take you right through to evening.
  • Alternatively, add a roll neck layer underneath the dress, for a casual look, team with a blazer for a layered look and a pair of trainers.
  • If you have invested in a sequin or satin midi skirt, again, rather than thinking of these as just  being dressy prices, swap the heels and add in knee high boots or classic Dr Martins and team with a jumper, this could either be belted around the waist or tucked in for shape.
  • The contrast of anything sumptuous and sequinned or velvet with faded denim, in my eyes is like a match made in heaven. So that velvet balzer you bought? Go and dig it out, throw a roll neck and a slogan tee under it, team with the jeans and add your boots. Voila!!!
