Spook-tacular and unique halloween happenings for you and your lil’ monsters!

That wonderful American import known as the festival of Halloween falls in the middle of half term for most of us this year.  There are stacks of events running from the Saturday before for a week.  We’ve trawled the www and picked a few ‘stand outs’ for you, time pressures often result in us doing the same old thing, this year try something different.  Take your pick! ….

If your lil’ monsters have a sweet tooth York’s CHOCOLATE Story are holding spooktacular shock-olate tasting sessions this halloween. Courageous visitors can test their nerve by taking part in the tastiest trick or treat challenge ever. Guests will test their luck by spinning the ‘wheel of fortune’ to receive either a deliciously tasty treat or a revolting rotten trick chocolate!The attraction is gearing up for the eeriest Halloween yet, decorated with spooky spiders and ghostly ghouls. The team of devilish chocolatiers have been busy concocting the most revolting flavours for those unlucky enough to land on ‘trick’, with flavours such as Brussel sprout purée, smoked salmon and marmite with popping candy. Those lucky enough to escape with a treat can look forward to flavours such as toffee apple and popcorn and marshmallow.
Located in King’s Square in the heart of York, York’s CHOCOLATE Story provides a fascinating fully guided tour through the history of York’s most famous chocolate-making families and their finest creations.

Or don’t miss your chance to see the family Halloween classic Hocus Pocus with beautiful Kirkstall Abbey as a backdrop!  Three witches from the Salem Witch Trials are mistakenly resurrected and want to continue sucking the souls out of the town’s children. Will they succeed? You’ll have to wait and see…..dressing up as witches, wizards, ghouls and ghosts optional!

Hocus Pocus comes to Kirkstall Abbey on Friday 26th and Saturday 27th October 2018.

Alternatively, during the day on Saturday 27th, Sneaky Experience are running a Pick n’ Pimp Your Pumpkin day. Turn up in your best fancy dress and meet a host of spooky characters, from Casper to Maleficent, who will help you first choose your pumpkin, then head over to the pimping station where you can customise with loads of different paints and materials.

Pick n’ Pimp Your Pumpkin takes place at Kirkstall Abbey on Saturday 27th October 2018

Or you could join the fun at Castle Howard this October half term for a Halloween experience like no other. The house and grounds have been taken over by a gang of ghostly pirates and ghoulish zombies and they’re on the lookout for new recruits! Hidden deep within Castle Howard’s burnt out wing lies the ancient cure to zombification. Whilst somewhere amongst the twisting woodland paths is a hoard of lost pirate treasure waiting to be unearthed. Which team will you join?
